Parent Walkabout

Ms Cowley

Whether you were able to attend the Student-Led Parent Walkabout or not, this webpage is intended to give you a general sense of my classroom and instruction. If you have any questions, please email me at jennifer.cowley@burnabyschools.ca

In September 2023, I emailed families details of my classroom setup & policies prior to the start of the year.  If your child transferred into the class after Sept. 6, you will not have received that information, but you can read it at the links below.

I expect all my students to bring a Silent Reading text to every class and to have a working public library card (in their own name). Students should make full use of both the school and public libraries.

The school library catalogue can be accessed from the school web site. Students can access the library catalogue and research tools* from the comfort of home (or on their mobile device)  just as if they were at school.  (*Accessing online databases from home requires the login information students can find posted in the library on the orange posters--we're not permitted to share that info online, so they should collect it in advance.)

The Burnaby Public Library (BPL) also has a website where patrons can access the catalogue and research tools as well as accessing their own accounts to reserve and/or renew items.

I share my classroom with Ms Grewal, who also teaches English.  We're in the hiatus of packing for the move to the new building, so the red boxes are not permanent fixtures for teaching...just annoying space-takers at the moment.
